Can Your Sewing Machine Cook?

Pillow Throw Decor Latest Morphed item

Morphing is Eco Friendly - What did it used to be?

Mine can’t. Every time I bring another sewing machine home,  Dear Husband asks… “Can it cook?”

If you haven’t signed up for this week’s Pillow Giveaway 2, quick do it here before you read on…

There’s 13 sewing machines in various locations of my studio and workshop and I have lots of  good reasons why I need so many. One in particular can sew through half inch plywood if I ever needed to.  Of course Dear Husband asked… “Will you ever need to?”

My old Singer, industrial, walking foot is the grand-daddy of my family of sewing machines and it will sew upholstery for cars, boats, boat covers, etc. Of course Dear Husband asked…”Does this mean I get to buy a boat?” He is soooo funny!!!

There was no boat in his Christmas stocking, but I did buy him a Hummingbird Fish Finder.  The carrying case was going to cost  as much as the finder, so I decided to make one.

At the thrift store, I went crazy and bought an armload of stuff to “repurpose”, one item of which you see pictured above. Can you guess what it was? In less than 30 minutes, and for only $2.50 I  made a carrying case for the fish finder.

When sewing outdoor or marine  items a special thread is required of which I only have 5 colours but I do have lots of fabric marking pens. So your tip for today is this… rather than buying a whole selection of these specialized threads, it is much cheaper and easier  to buy a pack of marking pens and just colour your thread to match the vinyl.

Dear Husband is going fishing this weekend so he is going to be thrilled about his new, designer  “Luxe and Found” fish finder carrying case.  That should win me some points.

I was also inspired by this ridiculously ugly ladies’ shirt. My much, much, older sister would wear this but I sure wouldn’t (don’t tell EM I said that). Please forgive me if I have offended anyone that owns a shirt like this … but seriously, I almost took my scissors out of my purse and started cutting on the spot.  I love  cutting up clothes…  best to take them off first though.

2 things I would like you to  comment on to help us all get our creative juices going…

  1. guess what it was that I morphed into the fish finder case
  2. tell me how you would morph the ugly shirt… show and tell next week

Can't wait till next week to see what the shirt has been re-made into. It certainly is bright!

    1…….A dirt bike rider's jacket sleeve ??

2…….Re: shirt………Less of the 'ugly' pleeease.
I love this shirt! Its wildly happy and wants all who look upon it
to feeeeeeeeeel the happy and be utterly envious.

Therefore I predict the Grand-Morphing-Mother will make of this gem….a “Brag Hat”.

(Visualize a ball-cap with that drapey bit hanging down to protect the neck from sun)

ONLY the luckiest…the actual catchers of fish…. will be deemed worthy enough to
'don the colors' (the cap) and said cap will become the coveted symbol of a champion
angler and the envy of all who get skunked.

So watcha think ? Dear Husband gonna buy that? Any prize for this?

Uhm… the fish finder case was…. a tennis racket case.
The shirt wil be….. the valence for a kitchen window curtain. It looks like a bright morning-time design.

  • PillowThrowDecor June 26, 2010, 6:52 pm

    Yup… Blinding bright!!!

  • PillowThrowDecor June 26, 2010, 6:57 pm

Lol… your guess is wrong. I can't believe you like that shirt… (slaps head)..Of course you would.. you plant turnips and lettuce in your front yard. Silly girl.

Ha Ha.. fishing hat. You are too funny. No prize , just laughs. Hey …enter the weekly pillow draw! Thanks for dropping by my dear friend.

Nope on the tennis racket… Fish finder is much longer than a racket.
OMG… a kitchen valance??? It would feel like I had morning sickness all over again if I had to wake up to that…. Hmmm I wonder…

    1. Was it a wetsuit?
    2. The fabric band that wraps around a big floppy straw hat, that is extra long and can also double as a scarf.

  • PillowThrowDecor June 27, 2010, 5:55 am

    Nope … no wetsuit.
Oh I like that idea for a hat scarf… and I do have just the perfect hat! Hmmm….

My brain is still buzzing on this mystery… was it a skirt? a corset?

  • PillowThrowDecor June 27, 2010, 5:29 pm

Nope! Big clue here…. It only took me 30 minutes to make (probably less) so logically I haven't changed much on it. 2nd clue is in the scraps… 🙂 Think hard Sonic… there's going to be a $25 pillow gift certificate if you can guess this one right.

I think it is the jacket Michael Jackson wore in Thriller! LOL!

  • Sew Shine Embroidery June 28, 2010, 1:01 pm

    Umbrella Case?

Are you SURE it wasn't a Leather Jacket in it's previous life? Kinda looks like a jacket arm scrap…

  • PillowThrowDecor June 28, 2010, 1:40 pm

And you think I would be cutting' it up???? LOL

  • PillowThrowDecor June 28, 2010, 1:40 pm

Nope… Another clue…. see the metal hook in about the middle of the case?

  • sonic July 3, 2010, 2:42 am

Guess #3 – what about a gun case?

  • PillowThrowDecor July 3, 2010, 1:03 pm

LOL… Sonic you're a riot! No… not a gun case. the big reveal…. drum roll and everything…. it was a snow ski case used to pack your skis while traveling. The hook I thought was a good clue as they get hung up in an aircraft cabin or closet. By the way dear husband reported that it worked perfectly on his fishing trip. Kept things safe and dry.
